Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base (Andir Airfield)

Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base is an Indonesian Air Force Type B military airbase located in Bandung, West Java. The land is owned by the Indonesian Air Force, with civil passenger operations functioning as an enclave managed by InJourney Airports. The base complex hosts the headquarters and manufacturing facilities of state-owned aerospace firm Dirgantara Indonesia.

The facility was established between 1920 and 1921 by the Dutch East Indies colonial government as Andir Airfield on a 45-hectare site for the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force (ML-KNIL). Initial operations involved aircraft such as Avro, Glenn Martin, and Koolhoven models. Commercial flights began in November 1928 with KNILM operating Fokker F.VII aircraft, and by the 1930s the airfield served as a technical maintenance center handling Douglas DC-3 aircraft.

At the onset of the Pacific War in 1941, the airfield served as the base for the ML-KNIL 1st Air Group (Ie Vliegtuiggroep), operating Martin B-10 bombers, and hosted a military technical training school. ML-KNIL forces operated Martin B-10s and Brewster F2A Buffalos from the site until Japanese forces captured the airfield in March 1942. Japanese forces expanded the installation during the occupation, constructing hangars, workshops, fuel storage, and communications infrastructure.

Indonesian personnel took control of the airfield in October 1945, but British and subsequently Dutch forces occupied the facility during the Indonesian National Revolution, using it as a staging airbase for operations such as Operation Kraai. The ML-KNIL formally transferred the airbase to the Indonesian Air Force on 2 March 1950. On 17 August 1952, the base was renamed in honor of Indonesian Air Force officer Husein Sastranegara.

The installation operated exclusively as a military airbase through the 1950s and 1960s, with civil commercial operations commencing in 1974. The airfield's shared facilities host military units, manufacturing hangars, and commercial transport infrastructure capable of handling turboprops and narrow-body jet aircraft, including Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 types.
