Description
The Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate, also designated Light Tactical Aircraft (LTS) and T-75, is a single-engine stealth fighter under development by Sukhoi for export customers and the Russian Aerospace Forces. A static, non-flying prototype was unveiled at the MAKS 2021 air show. Positioned as a low-cost competitor to the F-35A and Shenyang J-35 in the light-to-medium weight category, it is forecast by Rostec at 300 aircraft over 15 years, with a claimed unit cost of US$25-30 million.
Design
The design features a diverterless supersonic inlet wrapping the lower nose, a V-tail with combined ruddervators, and internal weapons bays, all intended to reduce radar signature. Avionics are shared with the Su-57, including a planned low-cost AESA radar, and the powerplant appears to be a derivative of the Saturn AL-51F-1 turbofan. Manufacturer figures - for an aircraft that has never flown - credit it with a top speed of Mach 1.8, a 2,900 km range, a 16,500 m ceiling, and a 7,400 kg maximum payload on five internal and six external hardpoints.
Development has been repeatedly delayed: the maiden flight, first scheduled for 2023, slipped to 2024, 2025 and then 2026, with mid-2026 reporting pointing to late 2026 or 2027. International sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine cut access to semiconductors and machining equipment, and the United Arab Emirates paused its participation, removing critical funding. At the 2025 Dubai Airshow, Sukhoi and Rostec officials said the first flight article was being finalised. No export contracts have been confirmed.
