RCH 155

The RCH 155 (Remote Controlled Howitzer 155 mm) is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (now KNDS Deutschland). Designed to integrate artillery automation with protected wheeled mobility, the system mounts the 155 mm L/52 main gun from the PzH 2000 into an automated, remotely controlled turret module. The system derived from the Artillery Gun Module (AGM) developed for air-transportable platforms such as the DONAR. Following integration studies on the Boxer platform starting in 2014, KMW introduced a modified variant featuring a lower-profile turret, designated the RCH 155, in 2021.

In October 2023, the RCH 155 was selected for Germany's Zukünftiges System Indirektes Feuer mittlere Reichweite program. A tracked variant, designated the RCH 155 tracked LORAS and featuring a KNDS France cannon, was presented in 2026 to begin trials. In December 2025, Rheinmetall signed a contract to supply the weapon and electronic systems for initial production batches.

The RCH 155 can fire while in motion, a measure designed to prevent localization by real-time counter-battery radar systems such as COBRA. In addition to indirect fire missions, its traverse and firing control systems permit direct-fire target engagement against close-range threats, such as armored vehicles, for self-defense. The vehicle is automated and designed for potential fully remote operation.

The system is operated by or has been selected for service by several armed forces, including Germany, Ukraine, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. Ukraine ordered multiple batches of systems financed through German government aid funds beginning in September 2022, receiving an initial system in January 2025 for crew training. In September 2024, Germany authorized the sale of RCH 155 systems to Qatar in exchange for PzH 2000 units. The United Kingdom selected the vehicle in April 2024 under the Mobile Fires Platform program to replace the AS-90, placing firm contracts in May 2026. Germany approved a framework agreement in December 2025 covering test prototypes, domestic acquisition, and system allocations for export allies.
