Qatar Army

The Qatar Emiri Land Force serves as the land warfare component of the Qatar Armed Forces, operating under command headquartered in Doha. Primary operational formations comprise mechanized infantry battalions, armored units, an artillery brigade, and combat support elements. The Amiri Guard functions as an independent security unit responsible for VIP protection and security for critical installations, while the Qatar Joint Special Forces execute unconventional warfare and counterterrorism operations. Primary military installations and garrison facilities are situated at Tariq bin Ziyad Camp near Doha and the Um Hattah military complex.

Armor units operate German Leopard 2A7+ main battle tanks, supported by Piranha II wheel-mounted tank destroyers equipped with Cockerill turrets. Mechanized and motorized infantry units are equipped with Boxer infantry fighting vehicles fitted with RCT30 turrets, French VAB armored personnel carriers, and AMX-10P tracked vehicles. Tactical mobility and troop transport rely on Turkish-manufactured mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles, including the Ejder Yalcin, Kirpi-2, and BMC Vuran, supplemented by Fennek reconnaissance vehicles and Dingo 2 armored cars. Ground artillery formations field Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, AMX F3 self-propelled guns, and G5 towed howitzers. Long-range precision fires and rocket artillery are provided by Chinese SY-400 vertical-launch short-range ballistic missile systems and Astros II multiple-launch rocket systems.

Operational deployments include participation in the Gulf War, where Qatari ground units fought at the Battle of Khafji. Qatari land forces also deployed infantry and armored units to southern Saudi Arabia to perform border defense missions during the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen. Force modernization programs focus on foreign equipment acquisitions and system integration supported by domestic defense enterprise Barzan Holdings. Procurement contracts have transitioned ground forces toward modern Western and Turkish operational platforms, replacing older French armor and artillery with updated main battle tanks, self-propelled howitzers, precision missile capabilities, and wheeled armored vehicles. Air defense support for ground formations is provided through integrated short-range and high-altitude air defense systems operated in coordination with national air defense forces.
