22nd Air Base (22 Baza Lotnicza)

The 22nd Air Base is a Polish Air Force installation located east of Malbork, near the village of Królewo Malborskie. A civilian airfield was established at the site in 1929, then known as Königsdorf, before its acquisition by the Luftwaffe in 1934. During World War II, the facility was associated with a 100-acre Focke-Wulf aircraft production plant and was targeted by United States Army Air Forces B-17 raids in October 1943 and April 1944. Post-war, the site hosted Soviet Air Forces units until the 1952 formation of the 41st Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Force of the Polish Army. This regiment operated MiG-15, MiG-17, and MiG-21 fighters. The 22nd Air Base was officially constituted on 1 January 2001, replacing the disbanded 41st Fighter Aviation Regiment.

The 41st Air Tactical Squadron is the primary unit stationed at the base. The squadron operates Mikoyan MiG-29A/UB fighters, which replaced MiG-21s in 2004. These aircraft consist of refurbished former East German Air Force inventory obtained from the Luftwaffe.

The base supports NATO Air Policing operations and provides infrastructure for international fighter detachments. Hosted aircraft have included French Air Force Dassault Rafale and Mirage 2000 fighters, as well as F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Royal Netherlands Air Force and the Belgian Air Component. The installation has also hosted deployments of Netherlands F-35 fighters, Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons, and Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4s assigned to No. 140 Expeditionary Air Wing.
