Description
Stefanovikeio Air Base is a military installation located in Stefanovikeio, Thessaly, Greece. The facility is operated by the Hellenic Army Aviation. It is the headquarters for the 1st Army Aviation Brigade "Kilkis-Lachanas", a formation established in 1998 to consolidate units of the Hellenic Army Aviation. From 2013 to 2026, the brigade was subordinated to the First Army through the 1st Infantry Division. The brigade's honorific title commemorates the Battle of Kilkis–Lachanas from the Second Balkan War.
The base hosts multiple units of the 1st Army Aviation Brigade. These include the Headquarters Company, the 17th Signal Company, the 1st and 2nd Attack Helicopter Battalions, the 1st Army Aviation Battalion, the 1st Airfield Support Battalion, and the 307th Support Battalion. Aircraft based at Stefanovikeio include AH-64 Apaches, CH-47 Chinooks, NH90 Caimans, and UH-1 Iroquois helicopters.
