Veracruz Naval Air Base (Veracruz International Airport (Las Bajadas / BASANVER))

Veracruz Naval Air Base, also known as Las Bajadas or BASANVER, is a Mexican Navy facility located on the outskirts of Veracruz, Mexico. It is collocated with the civilian Veracruz International Airport. The airfield was originally constructed in 1942 by Compañía Mexicana de Aviación using funds provided by the United States government. In 1943, during World War II, a Naval Aviation School was established at the site using former Mexican Air Force aircraft. The Naval Air Station of Veracruz was formally established in 1974, taking over older airport facilities. In 1999, the Mexican Navy initiated a program at the base to build kit planes and light helicopters.

Operated by Mexican Naval Aviation, it is the largest and oldest naval air base in Mexico. The facility controls maritime operations along the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Military infrastructure at the base includes dedicated hangars, aircraft stands, and administrative facilities, alongside a Flight Crew Training Center.

The base hosts several operational and training units. The 1st Maritime Patrol Naval Air Squad operates CASA C-212PM Aviocar aircraft. The 1st Early Warning and Reconnaissance Naval Air Squad operates E-2C Hawkeye 2000 aircraft. The Naval Aviation School is also stationed at the facility, conducting flight training with a fleet of rotary and fixed-wing aircraft that includes MD 500, Robinson R22, Schweizer 300, and Zlín Z 42 airframes.
