Nimr II

The Nimr II is a high-mobility tactical vehicle developed by a joint venture between Jordan's King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) and the United Arab Emirates-based Bin Jabr Group. The design originated from a requirement to provide military, police, and peacekeeping forces with an off-road platform capable of operating in extreme desert climates with ambient temperatures ranging from -25°C to 55°C. Early prototypes of the initial Nimr concept were produced in 2000 by Emirates Defence Technology in conjunction with engineers from a subsidiary of GAZ, followed by further 4x4 and 6x6 development by the Bin Jabr Group. Specialized air defense and anti-tank variants were created in partnership with Rheinmetall and MBDA. The Nimr II was officially unveiled at the IDEX defense exhibition in 2007.

Built on 4x4 and 6x6 chassis configurations, the vehicle serves in multiple operational roles, including troop and cargo transport, weapon platform, ambulance, missile carrier, and command shelter carrier. Propulsion is provided by a Cummins ISBe series diesel engine coupled to an Allison MD 3060 six-speed automatic transmission. The chassis features a double-wishbone independent suspension, constant velocity drive joints, run-flat tires, a central tire inflation system, and a cooling system with extra-large radiators designed for high ambient thermal conditions. Basic protection consists of welded armor providing STANAG 4569 Level 1 ballistic protection and resistance against anti-personnel mine blasts. An add-on composite ceramic armor kit can upgrade ballistic protection to STANAG 4569 Level 3 or 4, and mine protection to Level 3a/2b. Armament options include remote controlled weapon stations or manual turrets equipped with 7.62mm machine guns, 12.7mm heavy machine guns, or 40mm automatic grenade launchers. Optional equipment includes an NBC protection system, GPS navigation, and a self-recovery winch.

The Nimr II is operated by the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Libya, and Lebanon. Libya contracted with the Bin Jabr Group in 2009 for the acquisition of 4x4 multimission platforms, and pro-Gadhafi Libyan Army Nimr II vehicles were deployed during combat operations in Zawiyah in March 2011.
