Adisoemarmo Air Force Base (Panasan Airfield)

Adisoemarmo Air Force Base is an Indonesian Air Force Type A installation located in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, 14 km north of Surakarta. The base operates primarily as a training center for Air Force cadets and oversees air defense operations for Surakarta and the surrounding region. It does not serve as a home station for combat squadrons.

Originally constructed in 1940 by the Dutch colonial government as Panasan Airfield for the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force, the facility was subjected to scorched-earth destruction by Dutch forces prior to the 1942 Japanese invasion. The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service subsequently completed construction and operated the airfield during World War II, expanding the base southward. Following the Japanese surrender in 1945, Indonesian militias took control of the site and acquired aircraft left behind by Japanese forces. During Operation Product in the Indonesian National Revolution, Dutch air attacks destroyed concealed aircraft, hangars, and administrative infrastructure, leaving the airfield abandoned through the late 1950s.

The Indonesian Air Force reactivated the site in 1959, establishing the Air Force Military Education Center (PPKAU). In March 1974, the facility was opened to joint civilian commercial operations, and in July 1974 was renamed Adisoemarmo Air Base in honor of Air Force officer Adi Soemarmo Wirjokusumo.

Base infrastructure includes a headquarters, hangars, support facilities, and former terminal buildings repurposed for military use. The base shares airfield infrastructure with civil aviation operations managed by InJourney Airports, with ground transport integrated via an airport railway line connecting to Solo Balapan railway station.
