Abdul Rachman Saleh Air Force Base (Bugis Airfield)

Abdul Rachman Saleh Air Force Base is an Indonesian Air Force Type A installation located in Pakis, Malang Regency, East Java. The land is fully owned by the Indonesian Air Force, with civilian passenger services operating via an enclave facility.

Constructed between 1937 and 1940 by the Dutch colonial government as Singosari Airfield, the base initially served the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force. During World War II, it was the base for the 2nd Air Group operating Martin B-10 bombers and hosted United States Army Air Forces B-17 Flying Fortresses. Japanese forces captured the facility in March 1942. Following the Japanese surrender in August 1945, Indonesian forces secured the airfield, then known as Bugis Airfield. Dutch military forces recaptured the installation in July 1947 during Operation Product before officially transferring control to the Indonesian Air Force on 17 April 1950. The facility was renamed Abdul Rachman Saleh Air Force Base in 1952. Commercial aviation began operating at the site in 1982, with a civil passenger terminal established inside the military complex in 2005; civil operations were moved outside the primary military zone in 2011, and the former terminal was retained for Air Force use.

The base hosts four operational units:

• 4th Light Transport Squadron, operating the CASA C-212 Aviocar
• 21st Combat Squadron, operating the Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano
• 32nd Heavy Transport Squadron, operating the Lockheed C-130 Hercules
• 22nd Technical Squadron

Base infrastructure includes military hangars, aircraft parking aprons, and technical support facilities configured for transport and light combat operations.
