Description
Balıkesir Air Base is located in the city center of Balıkesir, Turkey. The facility functions as a joint public and military installation. During the Cold War, the base hosted TUSLOG Detachment 184, which supported nuclear strike operations conducted by the 191 and 192 Filos. These units operated Lockheed F-104G/S aircraft. Approximately 25 nuclear weapons were stored at the facility during this period.
The base is operated by the Turkish Air Force and hosts the 9th Air Wing (Ana Jet Üs) of the 1st Air Force Command. Infrastructure at the site includes a terminal building completed in 2020.
