Description

Etimesgut Air Base is located 15 kilometers west of Ankara. The facility is owned by the Turkish Air Force and operated jointly with the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK). The Etimesgut Türkkuşu Training Center was established at the site on May 3, 1935.

The base hosts the 11th Air Logistics Command, a direct subunit of the General Staff of the Turkish Air Force. The command operates two squadrons from the facility. The 211th Squadron ("Gezgin") operates CASA CN-235M-100 aircraft for cargo and ambulance roles and CASA CN-235EW aircraft for electronic warfare missions. The 212th Special Squadron ("Doğan") utilizes CASA CN-235M-100, Cessna 550, Cessna 650, and Gulfstream IV aircraft, as well as Bell UH-1H helicopters for personnel transport.

The THK operations at the base include the Etimesgut Türkkuşu Training Center, which consists of flight schools, maintenance and logistics facilities, and ground support units. The center operates several aircraft types, including the Antonov An-2, Cessna 402, Cessna 421, Dornier Do 28, Norman NAC6, PZL-Mielec M-18 Dromader, and PZL-104 Wilga.

The airfield features two runways oriented in an east-west direction. The northern portion of the base is assigned to the military, while the southern area is utilized by the THK. The Ankara Aviation Museum is situated at the northeastern corner of the airfield. The base is also the site of the International Defense Industry, Aerospace and Maritime Fair (IDEF) and civil aviation airshows.
