Description

Jirah Air Base, also known as al-Jarrah, is a Syrian Air Force facility. Opposition forces from Ahrar al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army captured the installation on 12 February 2013 after surrounding it in mid-January. Control of the base shifted to ISIS in January 2014.

The Syrian Army initiated an assault to retake the facility on 9 March 2017, recapturing it on 12 May 2017 during the Maskanah Plains offensive and fully securing it by 29 May 2017. The base was reopened in January 2023, at which point a Syrian Air Defense Force unit was stationed at the location.

During the 2024 Northwestern Syria offensive, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured the airbase following the collapse of Syrian Army positions. The SDF subsequently withdrew east of the Euphrates River on 17 January 2026 during an offensive conducted by Syrian transitional government forces.
