Knevichi Air Base (Vladivostok International Airport)

Knevichi Air Base, also known as Vladivostok International Airport, is a dual-use military and civil airfield located near Artyom, Primorsky Krai, Russia, approximately 44 kilometers north of Vladivostok.

The installation was constructed in 1931, with initial commercial flight operations beginning in 1932. In the decade following World War II, the airfield supported Po-2 and W-2 aircraft conducting air-chemical operations, coastal exploration, and forestry patrols. Passenger flights to Moscow commenced in 1948 using Ilyushin Il-12 aircraft. Between 1959 and 1964, the base's ground facilities were expanded to accommodate larger aircraft following the closure of the nearby Vtoraya Rechka Airport.

Today, the airfield operates under joint civil and military usage. Military operations are managed by Russian Naval Aviation. The base hosts an Independent Transport Aviation Squadron, which is subordinate to the 7062nd Naval Aviation Air Base of the Russian Pacific Fleet. The squadron operates transport aircraft, including An-12 Cub and An-26 Curl airframes.

The installation encompasses two distinct airfields. The primary Knevichi airfield is equipped with two hard-surface runways capable of accommodating all aircraft types. The secondary Lake Springs airfield, located southwest of the main complex, features two hard-surface runways originally designed for regional routes and is currently utilized by local aviation. Civil infrastructure at the site includes Terminal A, built prior to the 2012 APEC Summit to handle international passenger traffic. The former domestic Terminal B was closed and converted into an exhibition center.
