Manuhua Air Force Base (Mokmer Airport)

Manuhua Air Force Base is a Type A airbase of the Indonesian Air Force located in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia. The military installation shares its airfield and aviation infrastructure with Frans Kaisiepo International Airport.

The base originates from Borokoe Airfield, part of a complex constructed by Japanese forces during World War II. Allied forces captured the installation on 22 June 1944. Following the war, Borokoe accommodated commercial flights until 1953, when it was closed to passenger traffic. In the late 1950s, the Royal Netherlands Air Force repurposed the facility as a military base, stationing squadrons of P-2V Neptune aircraft and Hawker Hunter jets until their withdrawal in 1962. The Indonesian Air Force subsequently assumed control of the facility. On 21 April 1969, it was renamed Manuhua Airfield in memory of Major Lambertus Manuhua, an Indonesian Air Force commando killed in combat in 1962. Aerial operations were later consolidated at the current shared airport site.

The base currently hosts the 27th Air Squadron of the Indonesian Air Force, which was established at the site on 13 June 2019 and operates CN-235 transport aircraft. The installation also encompasses Naval Air Station Biak, a Class A facility of the Indonesian Navy’s Naval Aviation. The naval station serves as the home base for the 800th Air Squadron, which operates CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft.

Through its shared infrastructure with the civilian airport, the base utilizes a single runway, three taxiways, and an apron. The facilities are capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 747 and Airbus A330, and include a cargo terminal for logistical operations.
