Global Militarization Index (Americas)

Overview

The Global Militarization Index (GMI), developed by the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC), measures how militarized a country is relative to its size and resources. It compares military expenditure to GDP and health spending, weighs military personnel against the total population and physicians, and factors in heavy weapons relative to population. A higher score indicates a more militarized society.
