Description
Camp Buehring, established in January 2003 as Camp Udairi, is a United States military staging post located in northwestern Kuwait within the Udairi Range Complex, adjacent to Camp New York. The base was renamed in 2004 in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Buehring. The installation serves as a transit site for military personnel deploying into Iraq and acts as the main base for the Middle Eastern Theater Reserve. Units passing through the facility conduct weapon zeroing, equipment issuance, and environmental acclimatization before moving forward via airlift or ground transportation.
The base supports rotary-wing operations and accommodates various aviation and ground units. Hosted aircraft types include Boeing CH-47F Chinook, Sikorsky UH-60, and Boeing AH-64 helicopters. Rotational formations stationed at the facility include the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, the 449th Aviation Support Battalion, the 2nd Battalion (General Support), 149th Aviation Regiment, the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion, and the 1st Battalion, 101st Attack Aviation Battalion. The base also hosts international units, including Task Force Toro of the Spanish Armed Forces and Task Force Griffon of the Italian Army's 5th Army Aviation Regiment. Ground support and logistics units, such as the 1067th Composite Truck Company and elements of the 4th Infantry Division, have also operated from the facility.
