Description

Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore is a United States Navy master jet base located in Kings and Fresno counties, California. Commissioned in 1961, the installation was constructed to support naval aviation operations. In July 1998, the Navy selected NAS Lemoore as the West Coast site for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, with the first aircraft arriving in November 1999. The base expanded its operations between 2001 and 2004 with the addition of four fleet squadrons. In 2017, the base established its first F-35C Lightning II training squadron.

Operated by the US Navy under Navy Region Southwest, NAS Lemoore hosts the Navy's West Coast fighter and attack capability. It is the home port for Strike Fighter Wing Pacific and serves as the base for several carrier air wings, including Carrier Air Wing 1, Carrier Air Wing 2, Carrier Air Wing 9, Carrier Air Wing 11, and Carrier Air Wing 17. Based flying units include multiple fleet operational squadrons and two fleet replacement squadrons: VFA-122, which operates the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and VFA-125, which operates the F-35C Lightning II. A search and rescue detachment, STASAR Lemoore, operates MH-60S Seahawk helicopters.

Infrastructure at NAS Lemoore consists of two offset parallel runways. Aircraft maintenance hangars and parking ramps are positioned between the runways, with taxiway underpasses providing access to the air operations area. Technical and maintenance support is provided by on-site units including Fleet Readiness Center West, Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific, and the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Lemoore. The installation also houses the Naval Aviation Maintenance Center for Excellence and various logistics, medical, and administrative commands.
