Description
Siliștea Gumești Air Base, also referred to as Balaci Air Base, is located in Teleorman County. Constructed in the early 1950s under Soviet supervision, the airfield was transferred to the Romanian Air Force in 1953. Jet flying operations ceased in the early 1960s. The site continued to function as a military radio-location installation until approximately 1999.
