Description

The 58th Helicopter Air Base, also referred to as Turnișor, is located at Sibiu International Airport, 3 km west of Sibiu. The facility was established in 1943 on a 174-hectare field. The installation hosted the 58th Helicopter Group, which operated IAR-330H and IAR-316 helicopters. As part of the 2002 reorganization of the Romanian Air Force, the group was reorganized as a squadron and assigned to the 71st Air Base at Câmpia Turzii. The site now hosts a separate military unit.
