Description
Starokostiantyniv Air Base is a Ukrainian Air Force installation located near Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast. During the Cold War, the base hosted the 85th Fighter Aviation Regiment. In the early 1990s, the 7th Bomber Aviation Regiment was established at the site, operating Sukhoi Su-24M aircraft. The regiment was subordinated to the 35th Aviation Group and subsequently reorganized into a Bomber and Reconnaissance Brigade. In October 2005, the 32 Independent Reconnaissance Aviation Squadron was integrated into the brigade. Between 2005 and 2006, the formation transitioned from using conscripts to being composed of professional soldiers.
The base is operated by the Ukrainian Air Force and serves as the home of the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade "Petro Franko." The installation hosts squadrons of Sukhoi Su-24M, Sukhoi Su-24MR, Mikoyan MiG-29, and Aero L-39C Albatros aircraft. Base infrastructure sustained damage during missile and unmanned aerial vehicle strikes in March 2022 and May 2023.
