Description
The M117 is an air-dropped demolition bomb that originated during the Korean War. It served as the airframe for the BOLT-117, the first laser-guided bomb.
The weapon contains a Tritonal explosive fill. It is compatible with various aircraft, including the F-100, F-104, F-105, B-57, F-111, F-5, A-1, A-4, and F-4.
The bomb has been deployed by several nations, including the United States, Israel, Iran, South Korea, and Turkey. During Operation Desert Storm, B-52G aircraft dropped the M117 in large quantities. Israel utilized the weapon during operations in Gaza in 2023.
