Description

Someșeni Helicopter Air Base is located in the Someșeni district of Cluj-Napoca, at Cluj International Airport. The facility served as a helicopter base during the late Cold War and post-Cold War period. The airfield hosted Escadrila 132 Elicoptere, which operated Mil Mi-8 transport helicopters and IAR-316B Alouette III helicopters, and later received IAR-330L Puma. The squadron remained active through the 1990s, conducting transport and support missions in the region. As part of early-2000s restructuring and force consolidation, Escadrila 132 Elicoptere formally ceased activity on 31 May 2002, and its personnel and aircraft were reassigned to Câmpia Turzii.
