Prince Hassan Air Base (H-5)

Prince Hassan Air Base, formerly designated H-5, is a Royal Jordanian Air Force installation located near Safawi in the Mafraq Governorate, 100 kilometers east-northeast of Amman. The facility originated as an airfield associated with the Kirkuk–Haifa oil pipeline's H-5 pumping station, serving Royal Air Force and Iraq Petroleum Company mail aircraft operating between Baghdad, Amman, and Cairo.

In 1969, the site opened as a military air base and was named after then-Crown Prince Hassan bin Talal. Upon opening, No. 9 Squadron RJAF was established at the base operating Lockheed F-104A/B Starfighters. The Fighter Weapons Instructor School transferred to the base in 1994. No. 6 Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron RJAF was previously stationed at the airfield before relocating to Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.

The base hosts No. 17 Squadron RJAF, operating Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II aircraft. Foreign air forces also utilize the facility. The United States Air Force has used the base since the 1980s, with C-17 transport aircraft regularly transiting the airfield. The French Air and Space Force has conducted operations from the base since 2014, deploying detachments of Mirage 2000 and Rafale fighter jets. Facilities at the airfield include a main parking apron supporting both fighter and cargo aircraft operations.
